4.5 stars...ugly love stars at that. I bought this book so I would have a little more insight as to who Javier Bernal was before I dig into Dirty Angels. I am a new huge Karina Halle fan...I had never read any of her work until Love, in English...so this darker side of her was a shock...a good one.
Javier is that man we love to hate..he's almost slimy and creepy in his sex appeal...you know you really should run, not walk away...but he's got you in his web of lies and deceit so tight (plus he's seduced you into a quivering ball of goo) it's almost impossible.
Ellie/Eden was not supposed to fall in love...just get in, get revenge from Javier's boss and get out. NOT so easy at all because this naive virgin had no clue what she would be up against and her heart lost the battle between safeguarding it and getting the job done, and letting herself be swept up in a passionate all-encompassing love affair.
I was so torn reading this...I really wanted to see Ellie/Eden just get out for her own sake and yet hating what ultimately led to their demise...men can be such manipulative liars. Javier's passion about his job and life in general made him almost incapable of not crossing a line (whether it was killing a friend for business reasons or cheating on a lover for who knows what reasons) and it made him as cold blooded as he was hot as hell.
I am anxious to read Dirty Angels now that I see who we are dealing with...the man of many women's fantasies and nightmares =)

Well, I suppose I'm reading this (fast) read all out of order since I've read about Javier in the Dirty Angels series. But this is a prelude to the Artist Trilogy that was written before the Dirty Angel series. So I'm getting a taste of where Javier started and where his love for Ellie/Eden all began.
All I've gotta say is WOW! I can't wait to see where the Trilogy will go and how Javier grows and changes because I'm already familiar with how dark he becomes and it appears that this story is giving us a taste of where he began before he was dark.

I don't know how much I can say about this prelude, but I'm loving it. The pure Eden White (who is anything but) is going for the con of her life, but things get turned all upside down when she gets too serious about her contact. And Javier? All I gotta say is I'm intrigued. To see him before he's beyond dark is kind of refreshing. But then again, he's not so innocent himself.
Revenge is a serious matter and when combined with emotions and feelings you aren't too familiar with, things can get all skewed. I have a feeling this is going to be one crazy ride that I am going to thoroughly enjoy, but not before watching many lives being taken and altered for life. Can't wait Miss Halle!

So first let me start by saying I was very hesitant as to when I should read this book. The reason for this is that I knew Ellie winds up with Cam and not Javier. So with that in mind I decided to meet a young Ellie and Javier to see how it affects the future. When I first started reading this book I wasn't sure about Ellie. She is a young girl with vengeance on her mind. She decides to get close to her target she needs to seduce someone close to him, enter Javier. So they start a serious, lust filled relationship. She gives up her virginity to him and her quest for vengeance. Javier seems to be consumed by Ellie/Eden and although this relationship was doomed from the beginning because how can any relationship survive when its built on lies. Anyway love is all around and then boom WTF Javier CHEATS on her and if that wasn't a smack in the face the bastard did it in their bed. I was so pissed that I had to stop and think did I miss something, were there any signs, had he been lying the whole time? I really hate Javier because I hate CHEATERS. I really hope when they meet up again I get his story because I really want to know why he did it.
